One of the most asked questions I get is...
How do I become a notary?
This is very state specific. I'm only going to address how to become a notary in Virginia. If you are located in another state, I recommend starting with your Secretary of State Office or calling the National Notary Association.
In Virginia, you must be:
At least eighteen years old
A legal resident of the United States
Able to read and write the English language
A resident of Virginia or regularly employed in the state and perform notary services in connection with their employment.*
No person who has ever been convicted of a felony under the laws of the United States, the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the laws of any other state, qualify to be appointed and commissioned as a notary public unless such person has had their civil rights restored.
From there you click on the online application, located at:
Once you go through the process, you will go to the local court clerk who will administer an oath...and you are OFFICIAL!
Please reach out if you have any questions or need help becoming a notary in Virginia! Your commission is just the first step! You will need training, supplies, E&O insurance, etc!
I wish you blessings!
